This is from a series of illustrations for a children's book with the working title, "Orbit". This image is one of my favorites in this series.

Getting too close to the Sun

In my illustration I enjoy painting things, scanning them in, and cleaning them up in Photoshop and Illustrator. That orange background would be difficulat to do in a paint program but is quick work with a brush, canvas board, and some watered-down paint.

An early sketch

This is a rough sketch I made a few years back. I enjoy using burnt umber in some of these simpler pieces for irony's sake, as it reminds me of the old masters.
